Lillian Roe

Hello, friends! My name is Lilly Roe. I am 17 years old and I live in a small town called Seguin, Texas. I am a lover of life, seeker of knowledge, mountain admirer, wanna-be rock climber, and a senior at Williamsburg Academy.

My educational background consists of public schooling up until 2012. During the summer of 2012, I moved to a different city and decided that I wanted to try something new. I had been hearing about Williamsburg from my older cousins and was completely fascinated with the idea of it. Luckily for me, Williamsburg Intermediate was launched in the fall of that year! I took classes at WI for a year and then began high school at Williamsburg Academy in 2013. Four years later, here I am--wiser, happier, and more confident than ever before. Making the switch from public school to Williamsburg was the best decision I have ever made. I can’t even begin to describe how grateful I am for this experience and everything that has come with it.
To begin--I want to say thank you to everyone who has interacted with me during my time here at Williamsburg. Every single one of you, mentor and student, has had a hand in shaping me into who I am today. I am so appreciative of the connections I’ve made and the adventures I’ve had during these wonderful four years of high school. Seriously, you guys are the best. So much love.

During my time at Williamsburg, I have had many unique experiences. This May, I will attend my eighth session of Elevation. Even though I have to travel approximately 1,307 miles to get there, being able to be at Elevation so many times has been worth every sacrifice. Within the walls of Crawdad Canyon, I have found a true second home and second family.
Williamsburg didn’t only help me become a more intelligent person--it also helped me become a more courageous, loving, and profound person. My high school experience has been overwhelmingly positive, and I am so honored to be a burger.
The biggest life lesson I’ve learned at Williamsburg is to live a life with purpose. Specifically:
-
1. Make sacrifices that will open doors. Take risks. Leave your comfort zone. Williamsburg isn’t easy, but gosh is it worth it. Spending your time learning and studying prepares you for challenges later in life.
-
2. Find harmony within yourself. I know it’s a common piece of advice, but it’s true--sometimes you can’t control your circumstances, but you can control the way you react to them. Choose positivity and happiness, and be confident in your decision.
-
3. Surround yourself with positive influences and TREASURE THEM. The people you bring into your life quite literally make you who you are. If you attend Williamsburg, you are lucky enough to be surrounded by some of the most supportive and inspiring teenagers out there. Make connections, and hold on to them.

After graduation, I plan to work and travel through the summer. I’ll be going on WA’s Everest Base Camp adventure in September and then attending Texas State University, hoping to major in Philosophy and continue on to law school. I want to become an environmental lawyer and work to protect our beautiful Earth. I am excited for this next phase in my life, and thanks to these last four years, I am prepared.
Thank you, Williamsburg. It’s been fantastic, and I will always love you. :)
