Keegan Borman

Hi, my name is Keegan Borman!  I have homeschooled my entire life.  Now to most kids that might sound boring, but considering most of my life was spent living in New York, I would say it was awesome.  I was able to learn new things and be able to go and experience the vast and vibrant life of New York City.  While most kids read about the Declaration of Independence, I was taking the two-hour drive to go see it in person.  I was able to go visit the Freedom Trail where the Shot Heard Round the World occurred, reenacting it with my two brothers and two sisters.  Seven years passed and my family moved to Austin, Texas.  Enter Williamsburg!

A few years after moving to Texas I started Williamsburg.  My older brother and sister had both attended and graduated from Williamsburg.  From watching them I was able to see what life at Williamsburg was like and it looked awesome!  I visited them at Elevation and got to see a little bit more of what it was like.  By then I was hooked.  A couple years later I began classes with Williamsburg in my Junior Year.  It was awesome!  Mr. Reynolds with his bomb references and all my other mentors made it an awesome experience. Junior year passed in a flash and sooner than expected Senior year was upon me.  Now we’re almost to the finish and I can’t express how grateful I am with Williamsburg and how much they prepared me for college.

During Williamsburg I had a pretty exciting life.  While enrolled, I began playing soccer and immediately took to it like a Brit to...well, football.  On untold hours a week I would go to a local football pitch and play my little heart out.  Not long after I played with my first team.  On this team I was adopted as the little brother with my crazy soccer family.  With so many older “brothers” I quickly excelled and I’m so grateful for their kindness and for my coaches who kept our sides burning from either Indian Runs or jokes, oh and the dreaded Hill.  Over my summers I went to BYU soccer camps so I could excel as quickly as possible.  During my time there I made tons of friends and learned that all the ocean side boys agree.  There is not enough Oxygen in Utah!!  My last year there I won camp champs with my team. Now if you thought I just played football you’d be mistaken.

This is me with my bro Alex XD

During this time I was also working on my first full-length novel “Choir of Angels-The Lost One”.  Anyone who knows me will know that this work has been my brainchild.  It was such a blessing to be able to express myself creatively and to be able to create the worlds of my imagination.

Now my advice to all future Burgers!  I think one thing that we can all learn is time management.  Between Football, school, work, my book and all my other numerous activities I learned how to manage my time so I could be most efficient. To me, this is a great blessing and something that I think will help me in college greatly.

One other thing I think is incredibly important is finding yourself.  I feel like Highschool is a great period of time to discover who YOU are!  During this period we’re growing yes, but I like to think of it more as growing into ourselves.  Knowing who you are early in life will have a profound effect on your life and I think will make you more confident and better able to handle life.  For me, Elevation is where I found my voice!

Ralph Waldo Emerson hit the nail on the head when he said, “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail.”  This is an amazing quote and something that I totally agree with.  In my life I’ve tried to strive for my dreams, however crazy they may be, and go above and beyond the norm.  This has often resulted into me stepping into the dark and having to embrace the unknown, learning along every step of the way.

I plan on attending UT Dallas in the spring.  There I will study in Graphic Arts so I can pursue a career of grown up LEGO’s (Video Game design)  During this time I will be trying to break into the life of a professional footballer with the Major League Soccer club located in Dallas.  From there I plan on fulfilling my dream of playing for my dream club Newcastle United.  Located in Newcastle, England where I would be playing top division football in the English Premiere League.

So I would just like to thank everyone for all the love and support they’ve given me.  High School has been a crazy fun ride and I can’t wait for the road ahead.
